Meet your instructor: Trudy Flaherty, RYT
After being diagnosed with arthritis in 1994, Trudy turned to a home yoga practice as a way to help control the pain in her joints. In 1995, Trudy began studying with Kit Elhers and more recently with Teresa Bushnell. In 2001, she immersed herself for a month at the Shambhave School of Yoga at Shoshoni Yoga Retreat in Rollinsville, Colorado, attaining her 200-hour certification, registering as a Yoga Alliance Teacher, and has taught Hatha Yoga ever since. Since that time, Trudy has enhanced her practice by studying with Nischala Joy Devi and has completed the “Yoga of the Heart” Cardiac Teacher Training in Homosassa Springs, Florida. Additionally, she has taken several workshops with Cora Wen, Rolf Gates, Patricia Walden, Rodney Yee, Patricia Sullivan and Amy Mathews. Trudy has also developed and taught Water Yoga and a Kid’s Yoga Class for ADHD.
Trudy has enhanced her practice to include certification in Pilates through SCW EDU Pilates Mat work and Small Apparatus in Chicago, Illinois. In 2003, she became certified to teach T’ai Chi and Qi Gong “Movement and Improvement” through Rising Phoenix Shoulders Down Teacher Program in Atlanta, Georgia. Most recently, after dabbling in Feng Shui for years, she took it a step further and studied with Helen and James Jay at China Studies in Nevada City, California, and has become a Certified Feng Shui Consultant.
Despite all the certifications and continued studies, Trudy is most excited learning from her students.
I love being around my students, they are so energizing and fun loving, I know that I can come to class and be taught something daily. It is very rewarding to see students in every stage of life being willing and open to try something new to them.
Trudy owns and operates Just Breathe Yoga.
She has resided in Kearney since 1984 and lives there with her husband Kyle and rescue Whippet-Mix Sophie, who now thinks she rules the household.
